🌊👉Ah, The Prisoner's Voyage, the prog epic, the centrepiece of my debut album ‘Pause/Reflect’. If I had to choose a favourite, this would be it! 🤩 I am beyond happy with how this one turned out. The tones! The journey! The Rhodes! The guitars! The anthemic nature of the piece! 🎸🚢🎶
The song's narrative draws inspiration from the biblical tale of Paul and the shipwreck in Acts 27 and 28. A prisoner faces imminent execution as he is held captive on a ship commanded by an authoritative captain. When confronted by a tempest, the crew struggles to control the vessel, while the prisoner remains composed despite the chaos. After weathering the storm, the captain, frustrated by the prisoner's calm demeanor, confronts him. To everyone's surprise, the prisoner shares a dream where an angel foretells more storms, asserting that salvation lies in trusting the prisoner's leadership.
As a second storm approaches, the crew reluctantly follows the prisoner's instructions, leading to their survival on a desolate island. Despite initial gratitude, some crew members waver in their faith, but the captain defends the prisoner. After repairing the ship, they face another storm, this time prepared and united under the prisoner and the captain's leadership. Ultimately, the prisoner willingly walks towards his execution, embodying strength and purpose, leaving the crew and captain transformed. The story prompts reflection on the true identity of the prisoner—whether it is the individual himself, the captain, or the entire crew, challenging perceptions of destiny and purpose.
The most quintessential progressive rock piece of music on the album with moments akin to the likes of Pink Floyd, Devin Townsend, and Porcupine Tree but still maintains that K.A.B DNA introduced within our other singles, namely the wall of guitars, the riffs, and the quirkiness. This piece relies heavily on the music to tell the narrative as much as the lyrics and we hope you enjoy!
lyrics
Right through these storms!
A union, a voyage
Caught by the winds, and destined for death
As fear looms
Confusion
The captain tries to take charge
Through doing routine
The best way he knows how
Intrusion
As captive shares his dream
For an angel declared all will be saved
Conclusion
He speaks against defeat
They trust the imprisoned man
Who brings hope
He said keep your courage men
Just trust in me
And seek the light
Hey Yeah!
I Will Follow him to the end
Though I’m chained and death is awaiting me
Despite the danger, despite the chaos
I’ve been waiting
For my purpose is higher
So don’t leave me hanging on
I will trust and lead
Right through these storms
So don’t leave me hanging on
I’ll have faith and lead
Right through these storms
Ha!
Right Through These Storms!
We cannot see the light
Shining through the darkness of the blind
We cannot free ourselves
Unless we learn to rip apart our pride!
Trust him, for his sovereignty will prevail!
We must end our old life
To end our prisoners voyage!
Right Through These Storms!
